Tips for Writing a Technical CV
When applying for a job in the IT industry, it is important that your resume accurately reflects your skills and experience in the fields you work. Technical resumes differ from standard resumes in several ways and thanks to these differences, individuals can properly demonstrate their technical skills in a readable and informative manner. When writing a technical CV, your first priority should be to associate your background with the positions you are applying for.
When tailoring your resume to the specific jobs you are considering, there are a few key elements to add. Here are a few steps to consider when creating your technical resume:
Add your personal information. Start by adding an informative headline with details about yourself. These details should include your full name, phone number, physical location, and email address. You do not have to include your home address, but your city and country of residence must be listed on the resume.
Write a personal summary. When your CV includes a personal summary, you are twice as likely to get a response from recruiters. Use this area to summarize your progress in the professional field and highlight any of your noteworthy skills and achievements.
List your relevant work experiences. When you apply for a technical role, the work experience part of the resume is also crucial. However, you do not need to provide detailed information about the companies you have worked with before. Instead, you can write down what you have accomplished in each of your previous tasks and brief details of the projects. Adding the technologies you have used at the end of each experience will make the evaluation processes much easier for recruitment consultants.
Education. Most technical positions will require some type of degree, so you need to include your education in your resume. It will be sufficient to write down the full name of the school you graduated from, the city and country where the institution is located, the date of education, degree (such as associate degree, bachelor’s or master’s) and the department. You do not need to add your high school since most recruiters will not be interested in this information. If you have graduated with high success, it would be good to indicate your GPA and graduation degree.
Technical Projects. It will be useful to indicate your technical projects that you have done during your experience or that you are personally interested in. It will also be good to indicate your projects in the projects section, not in your experience, in terms of classification and easy reading of your resume. It will be sufficient to indicate the name of the project you are doing, your role in the project, institution and year.
Certificates and Courses. The trainings and certificates you receive to improve yourself outside of school may indicate that you have the desire to work hard and progress in your career as well as your current professional skills. Including these details can help your resume stand out among a group of applicants.
Hobbies and Interests. Including them is definitely helpful if you have hobbies or interests related to the position you are applying for. Instead of indicating ordinary interests such as reading books or going to the movies, you can include your more personal and interesting hobbies, if any.
